WHAT IS MOUTHPIECE PEP?

A mouthpiece PEP device is a mouthpiece with different sized holes (expiratory openings) to provide resistance on the breath out, creating positive pressure in the lungs and airways .

The CF physiotherapist will choose the appropriate resistor by attaching a manometer or pressure gauge to the PEP device and measuring the pressure on expiration with different sized openings.

The most commonly used mouthpiece PEP devices are: Pari PEP original and Pari PEP S

Pari PEP: original (no longer sold)

PEP S (now more widely used)
