Bubble/Bottle PEP is often used to transition young children between percussion and a PEP device.
It uses water and tubing to provide variable resistance on expiration (breath out).
A slightly bigger breath than normal is used with a long breath out.
One set consists of 10-20 breaths or it can be timed, 2-3 minutes, before huffs and coughs.
Try to make the session fun for young children.
Bottle PEP must be cleaned after each use.
Bottle PEP should be stopped immediately if a child complains of chest pain or coughs up any blood. The CF team should be contacted and CFWA should be informed.
